Megillat Esther
Kosher Megillat Esther in Miami
Miami Mezuzah Center offers guidance on kosher handwritten Megillat Esther and professional checking by a Certified Sofer STaM in Miami. Pricing on request.

Why a kosher Megillah matters for Purim
The reading of Megillat Esther is central to Purim. A printed book helps you follow along, but it is not a substitute for the kosher parchment scroll used for the mitzvah reading. Buying a handwritten Megillah means choosing both a sacred text and a scroll that can be read clearly.
Letter shapes, the accuracy of the text, parchment and the way the scroll is assembled all matter. Miami Mezuzah Center helps you ask the right questions before choosing a Megillah for your family, synagogue or community reader. Appearance alone is not a reliable assessment of kashrut.
Ktav options
Choose the writing tradition with your family's or community's minhag in mind. Discuss Sephardi preferences with us rather than choosing solely by the appearance of the letters.
Beit Yosef
A writing tradition commonly associated with Ashkenazi practice. Discuss the letter forms and readability you prefer.
Arizal
A distinct ktav tradition with its own letter forms. Tell us if this is the style used by your family or congregation.
Chabad
Discuss Chabad ktav when following Chabad custom. Confirm the requested writing tradition with the sofer before ordering.
Sizes and lines
11, 21, 28 and 42 lines are common Megillah formats. The line count describes the layout, not a quality grade or a guarantee of a particular height. Letter size, parchment dimensions and column layout affect how comfortable a scroll is to read and handle.
A personal Megillah and one intended for a public reader may have different practical requirements. Ask about the actual dimensions and legibility of a proposed scroll. These formats are general guidance, not a list of available stock.
Megillah checking before Purim
Arrange checking ahead of Purim rather than waiting until the day of the reading. A Certified Sofer STaM inspects the text letter by letter by a trained eye, assessing letter shapes, faded ink, cracks and earlier repairs. Mention moisture exposure or any area that concerns you.
Not every defect has the same remedy. The sofer explains the findings, and repairs are quoted separately before work is agreed. Contact us with your deadline so checking and any necessary repair can be planned; an urgent turnaround is not assumed.
Cases and handles by request
A case protects the scroll between readings, while a suitable handle can help with handling. Cases and handles are by request: tell us the parchment dimensions and how the Megillah will be used. Accessories do not establish the kashrut of the text and should be selected to fit the actual scroll.

Frequently asked questions
What makes a Megillat Esther kosher?
A kosher Megillah is handwritten by a qualified sofer on parchment using the required ink and halachic writing standards. The letters, text and construction need professional assessment; an attractive case or printed copy does not establish that a scroll is kosher.
Which ktav and line format should I choose?
Start with your family or community's custom. Beit Yosef, Arizal and Chabad are ktav options to discuss; ask us about Sephardi practice as well. Common line formats include 11, 21, 28 and 42 lines. We can discuss readability, dimensions and intended use without assuming a particular format is in stock.
Can you check my existing Megillah before Purim?
Yes. Contact Miami Mezuzah Center to arrange letter-by-letter checking by a trained eye before Purim. Tell us about any fading, cracking or previous repairs and your deadline. Scheduling is confirmed individually, and any repairs are quoted separately.
How much does a Megillah cost, and can I request a case?
Pricing on request. Tell us your preferred ktav, line format and size, and whether you need a case or handle. We will discuss the requirements and quote the requested work or scroll; availability and timing are confirmed before you order.
